Move a PDF table into Google Sheets
Extract the table locally, check the rows, then import only the spreadsheet data you choose into Google Sheets.
Google Sheets does not turn arbitrary PDF page layouts into clean cells by itself. The practical route is to extract the table first, review it, then upload an XLSX or CSV file—or paste the selected cells into a sheet.
Open the free PDF converterBefore you begin: PDFtoGrid does not upload your source PDF. Importing the finished spreadsheet into Google Sheets does place that exported data in your Google account, so only continue if that matches your privacy needs.
Step-by-step workflow
- Open PDFtoGrid, load the text-based PDF and select the relevant pages.
- Tune the table until headers and values occupy the correct columns.
- Use Copy when the table is small, CSV for one plain table, or XLSX for multiple sheets.
- In Google Sheets, create a spreadsheet and choose File → Import → Upload, or paste into cell A1.
- Check dates, currencies, percentages and leading-zero identifiers after import.
Copy, CSV or XLSX?
Copy and paste is fastest for a small clean table. CSV is reliable for one dataset and gives you import controls. XLSX is better when the converter produces several sheets or you want to preserve separate page tables.
Fix imported data types
Sheets may treat currency symbols and bracketed negatives as text. Use Format → Number only after checking the values. For identifiers such as invoice numbers, set the destination column to Plain text before importing.
Keep the source traceable
Add columns for source filename, PDF page and extraction date. Those details make collaborative checking easier and prevent an edited sheet from becoming detached from the original document.
Questions
Does PDFtoGrid connect directly to Google Drive?
No. Download or copy the extracted table, then import it into Google Sheets yourself.
Is the original PDF sent to Google?
Not by PDFtoGrid. Only the data file you later upload or paste into Google Sheets is sent to your Google account.
Why did the dates change after import?
Sheets applies locale-based date detection. Choose the correct spreadsheet locale and import date columns deliberately.
