Convert a PDF table to CSV

Create plain, portable rows from a text-based PDF for database imports, data tools, accounting platforms and spreadsheet apps.

CSV is deliberately simple: one table, plain values and no visual formatting. That makes it widely compatible, but it also means page layout, merged headings, formulas and multiple sheets cannot travel with the file. Clean the grid before download so the CSV has one unambiguous header row.

Step-by-step workflow

1. Load a text-based PDF and select only the pages containing the table you need.
2. Use Combine pages when the same columns continue across several pages.
3. Remove repeated page headings and footers, then tune column spacing.
4. Edit the first row into unique, concise field names without blank cells.
5. Download CSV and open it once in the destination system before processing the full dataset.

Commas and quotation marks

A valid CSV can contain commas inside a field because the value is enclosed in quotation marks. PDFtoGrid quotes values when needed. Do not split the file manually on every comma; import it through the application's CSV command.

Dates and leading zeros

Spreadsheet software may reinterpret dates or remove leading zeros from account and product codes. During import, set identifier columns to text and confirm day-month order. Never treat a code as a number merely because it contains digits.

Use consistent headers

Imports often fail because two columns share a name or one header is blank. Use stable names such as transaction_date, description and amount. Keep a small mapping sheet when the destination uses different field names.
